The Victorian Alliance
of San Francisco
will present its annual House Tour
this year featuring
San Francisco's Eureka Valley
Sunday, October 18, 2009, from One to Five P.M.
Beautifully-restored Victorian homes will be opened for the 37th interior home tour offered by Victorian Alliance of San Francisco. Once a country neighborhood with large working-class families, Eureka Valley was named for the northerly twin peak which rises above it and extends its shelter. The valley is richly endowed with Victorian houses, exquisitely renovated and lovingly maintained by today's proud residents, blending with the trendy shops and restaurants on Castro Street, its major thoroughfare.
Our tour will include delightful examples of Queen Anne and San Francisco Stick styles, dating from the 1880's to 1910, along with a magnificent Baroque-Queen Anne mansion, an exuberant celebration of Rococo and continental grandeur. A complimentary souvenir program will offer histories and descriptions of the homes.
This is a self-guided tour with much to see, so an early start is suggested. Vintage touring cars will circle the route for those who wish to use them, and comfortable shoes are always desirable. Light refreshments will be offered. Taking of photographs within the homes is understandably not permitted.
